What’s up, HTgang? I know its been a while, but I’ve been working on some great new posts for you guys. As fashionistas, we often spend more time worrying about what to wear than anything else. BUT, it is super important to also make sure we have that glamourous face to match; and, that’s what this post is all about. This Beauty Box Starter Kit is dedicated to all my fashionistas out there that aren’t MUAs (hey, I’m not either). Although I’m not an MUA, I’ve perfected my “going out face”, and have acquired some MUST haves for all my Glam Gals out there to have in their Beauty Box aresnal! I’m going to take you step by step of my glam routine, which leaves me with a totally natural beat that is easy to dramatize with eye makeup and lashes! Before we start though fashionistas, the FIRST rule to any glam session is a CLEAN face. Having a regular face cleansing ritual is essential to healthy skin and smooth, flawless makeup! My morning cleansing routine consists of Clinique’s New 3 Step program. The three step program is formulated for different skin types. I’m a #3 which is for combination oily skin types. I take it one step further by moisturizing with First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Cream. My night cleansing routine consists of Simple Brand Micellar Water for Cleansing and First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Cream (if I’ve had on makeup all day, I use First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Hydration serum instead of the repair cream). All of these products can be purchased at Sephora.
Now, we get to the fun parts! For the go to face there are a couple of MUST HAVES! If the item I’m referring to is a must have, I will put MUST HAVE in the description. The first step for anyone applying makeup should always be PRIMING. Priming is what evens out the skin and creates a smooth surface for your make up. The primer I am currently using is Smashbox Photo Finish! This primer can be found at Sephora. I will add that it can get a little pricey. However, I ordered the smallest size available and it has lasted for about four months, and still has a good amount left.
Using primer is just like priming walls for paint. It helps your makeup go on smoothly! It also creates an extra layer between your skin and the makeup! This item is a must have for anyone that is planning to wear makeup. To apply primer, you can use your fingers or small beauty sponges. I like to use small beauty sponges because our finger tips are naturally oily, and I already have oily skin.
Foundation is a must have. It protects the skin and also helps with the application of the rest of your makeup. For application, I use a large stippling brush (because my foundation is particularly oily), how ever regular foundation brushes work well for most foundations.
I use concealer as the first step to my highlighting process. You should apply concealer to you under eyes, bridge of your nose, for head. Some apply to chin and under the nose area. Again, because I’m naturally shiny (oily) I avoid the chin area and under the nose. Concealer is a must have because it adds dimension to your face, and makes you look awake (brightening the focus areas of your face). For application, I first use a small duo fiber stippling brush, then a damp beauty blender.
These are our “baking” items. Baking it makeup land is basically where you apply product to your face and let sit until ready. Baking is essential because concealer can run when sweaty. Use a translucent powder over your concealer to avoid that. I also use Ben Nye Banana powder to add color. When you are done baking, brush off excess powder. For application, I use a regular powder brush.
For brows, I just lightly follow the shape of my brows with a dark eye shadow. I do that during the bake step so that if I’ve gone too dark it can be blended in step 5. For application, I use a regular angled eye shadow brush.
Pressed powder is a must have because it brings your face together. You will notice that after Steps 1-4 your face kind of looks like mismatched painting. Using press powder blends all the colors and textures together for a complete look. For application, I use a large powder brush.
Step 6 can be skipped if you don’t like much highlight. However, I feel that highlight makes the face. I go over the same areas that I concealed with the light colored powder. Because, my skin tone has been changing so much, I sometimes mix all three top powders. However, for the most part I just use the one color that looks the best with my skin tone. For application, I used an angled contour brush to make sure the highlight is in the exact places I want it.
Blush is a must have because it adds more of the natural color your cheeks normally have. For application, I use a small blush brush.
Step 8 can be skipped if you don’t like much highlight. However, I feel that highlight makes the face. I only add this under the eye a little over the top of my blush. This is actually a bronzer from ELF, but it adds a nice under eye shimmer. For application, I used a large flat powder brush.
Mascara is a must have ESPECIALLY for those of us that do not like to wear eye makeup. It completes your look, and add an extra dimension to your eyes. I saved mascara as the very last step because your lashes can accumulate powder as you complete your face, and cover up the mascara you’ve applied early on. So just wait until the end! I’m currently using this Giorgio Armani mascara that I love. It was a gift to me, but I normally use drug store mascara.
Finishing spray is a MUST HAVE! It sets your entire face, and basically makes your makeup unmovable. I’ve slept in makeup after using finishing spray before, and not a hint of makeup was left on my pillow. You don’t have to worry about hugging friends, and leaving your face on their shirt ever again! I’m currently using finishing spray by Mary Kay! I normally do two sprays in the air and walk into it. I fan dry for a few seconds before doing two sprays directly on the face.
Lippies are a must have. I don’t think I even need to begin to explain why. The ones pictured above are three of my go to lippies by Kat Von D (Lolita), Dose of Colors (Merlot), and MAC (Flat out Fabulous). I’d go with liquid lippies for starters because they’re as easy to apply as lip gloss!
I hope you guys have enjoyed the Beauty Box Starter Kit! I worked really hard on this post! It’s my first detailed product post, and I was really nervous. For anyone that may be confused on what brushes to use, you can google the exact names I used and find pictures of each of these brushes. Makeup can be expensive, so never be afraid to start off with drug store products and add to your expensive collection slowly! Makeup brushes and beauty blenders are A MUST! If you visit, www.bhcosmetics.com, they have amazing professional style brushes for amazing prices! I recommend all my Beauty Box Starter girls to get brushes and beauty blenders from this company! Thanks so much for your time HT, gang!
As always, Peace. Love. & Fashion. -xoxo
